La Droguerie Ecologique Baking Soda - Biological Soda - 1 kg

Sodium bicarbonate is the scientific name for baking soda. It's also called bicarbonate of soda, bicarbonate of soda, E500, and baking soda. It has numerous ecological properties and is inexpensive. Its variety and wealth of applications are astonishing. Sodium bicarbonate can replace numerous products.

So, instead of water softeners, chemical cleaners, air fresheners, and maintenance products, consider sodium bicarbonate! It can be used as a cleaner, water softener, abrasive, pH regulator, air freshener, and descaling agent... the applications are endless!

Sodium bicarbonate - a bit of history

The ancient Egyptians already used the properties of natron, a mineral composed of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. They extracted this substance from the evaporation of salt lakes and used it as soap to wash their bodies. This substance was also used to mummify the body; bicarbonate has excellent dehydrating properties.

In 1791, a French chemist first developed sodium bicarbonate as we know it today. Several improvements were later made to its production and refining. Today's bicarbonate is primarily obtained from the chemical reaction between chalk and salt: two virtually inexhaustible sources. Some dried-up lakes (including those in Canada and the US) still mine natron, which, in a refined form, yields bicarbonate.
