Fair Squared soaps also have a nice story behind the maker of the soaps.
The face behind Fair Squared's soap bars
We're often asked who the man on the packaging is. This is Mohammed, also known as the Aleppo Man. He's the face behind our solid soaps and is
part of the FAIR SQUARED team since early 2019. But how did this really happen and what's the story behind it?
From Aleppo to Cologne
Mohamad is a native Syrian. He lived for many years in Aleppo, the capital of the eponymous laurel soap. When the civil war broke out, Mohamad decided to leave Syria.
After living in Lebanon for a year and a half, he came to Cologne in 2015 with his wife and six children.
Wanted and found: Aleppo soap made in Cologne
Mohamad had his own business in Aleppo, producing and distributing soap and detergents. When we at FAIR SQUARED were looking for someone to help us scale up our soap production in late 2018, Mohamad decided to apply for the position. His application immediately convinced us. Since then, Mohamad has been the driving force behind FAIR SQUARED soap production, and the best part is that he can do exactly what he did in his home country of Syria.
Trans Fair e. V. and Fairtrade International
The TransFair eV association was founded in 1992 with a goal: to support disadvantaged producers in developing countries. As an independent organization, TransFair eV does not trade products itself, but awards the Fair Trade label to fairly traded products and promotes awareness of sustainability. In Germany, 42,000 shops already sell Fair Trade-certified products. More than 20,000 restaurants and bars sell Fair Trade coffee and cocoa. More information can be found at www.fairtrade-deutschland.de.
TransFair is part of the international alliance Fairtrade International, which is responsible for the implementation and support of its partner organizations. Worldwide, more than 1.3 million farmers and employees benefit from fair trade plantations. Together with their families, millions of people enjoy better living and working conditions through trading in fair trade products.
The independent certification organization FLO-CERT GmbH is responsible for monitoring fair trade standards. This Bonn-based company operates an independent, transparent, and globally consistent certification system that meets the requirements of the ISO 65 (DIN EN 45011) accreditation standard.
