The face behind Fair Squared's soap bars

We're often asked who the man on the packaging is. This is Mohammed, also known as the Aleppo Man. He's the face behind our regular soaps and has been part of the FAIR SQUARED team since early 2019. But how did this really happen, and what's the story behind it?

From Aleppo to Cologne

Mohamad is a native Syrian. He lived for many years in Aleppo, the capital of the eponymous laurel soap. When the civil war broke out, Mohamad decided to leave Syria. After a year and a half in Lebanon, he arrived in Cologne in 2015 with his wife and six children.

Mohamad had his own business in Aleppo, producing and distributing soap and detergents. When we at FAIR SQUARED were looking for someone to help us scale up our soap production in late 2018, Mohamad decided to apply for the position. His application immediately convinced us. Since then, Mohamad has been the driving force behind FAIR SQUARED soap production, and the best part is that he can do exactly what he did in his home country of Syria.

The independent certification organization FLO-CERT GmbH is responsible for monitoring fair trade standards. This Bonn-based company operates an independent, transparent, and globally consistent certification system that meets the requirements of the ISO 65 (DIN EN 45011) accreditation standard.
