Compostier worm poop Compost - 500gr

Compostier's worm castings are locally produced using traditional methods. Compostier produces the worm castings themselves in their own worm hotels. The compost is made from local organic waste streams from Amsterdam. Composting worms then multiply the beneficial microorganisms in their digestive tracts.

The compost isn't heated, but rock dust is added, which provides additional minerals and trace elements. The soil life in the compost converts the minerals and trace elements into a form that is more readily available to plants.

Description

Local food for a living soil

Compostier's worm castings are locally produced in Amsterdam using traditional methods. In their self-built worm hotels, compost worms convert local organic waste into a rich, natural fertilizer: worm manure, also known as vermicompost.

During this process, the worms in their digestive tracts multiply countless beneficial microorganisms essential for healthy soil life. This creates a living compost teeming with bacteria, fungi, and enzymes that improve the soil's structure and fertility.

The compost is not heated, so all the valuable organisms are preserved. However, rock dust is added – a natural source of minerals and trace elements. Soil life converts these substances into a form that plants can absorb directly.

👉 Result: strong roots, resilient plants and a soil that repairs itself.

Application: Hydrangeas, Houseplants, Vegetable garden, Garden plants

  • Enriching the sowing soil: adding a small amount of vermicompost when sowing increases the germination rate.
  • Compost accelerator: a handful of worm castings in your regular compost heap will speed up the process.
  • Grass restoration: Spread thinly over lawns or bare patches — the microorganisms will stimulate new growth.
  • Houseplant boost: dissolve 1 tablespoon of worm castings in a litre of water, let it steep for 24 hours and pour out as liquid food.
  • Roses and vegetable plants such as tomatoes, courgettes and lettuce respond extremely well to worm castings.

Why choose worm castings from Compostier?

  • Made from local organic waste streams from Amsterdam
  • Full of life: rich in micro-organisms, minerals and trace elements
  • Cold produced, so all beneficial bacteria remain active
  • Local and circular: waste becomes food again

Their worm hotels are located in urban areas and utilize waste streams from restaurants and community centers. They operate at room temperature, keeping the microbes alive. They use rock dust and biochar as additives, which enhance the mineral absorption capacity.

And: they involve citizens in the process, which also makes it an educational sustainability project.

What exactly is worm poop?

  • Worm castings (or vermicompost) are the end product of the digestion of compost worms, usually Eisenia fetida or Eisenia andrei.
  • When these worms digest organic waste, they add enzymes, bacteria and mucilage that convert the material into an extremely fertile, stable humus fraction.
  • What makes worm manure unique:
  • It contains 5 to 10 times more nutrients (such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) than regular compost.
  • The nutrients are immediately available to plants — they do not need to be broken down first.
  • It is pH neutral, making it safe for virtually all plants.
  • It contains hundreds of millions of microorganisms per gram, which improve soil structure and help suppress diseases.

How do you use worm castings?

  • Use worm castings as a natural fertilizer in the garden, vegetable garden, or for houseplants:
  • Around plants or trees: spread the worm castings and work them in lightly with your hands or a rake, without disturbing the soil.
  • When potting or repotting: mix the old soil with up to 50% worm castings for a fertile base.
  • In the planting hole: sprinkle a handful of worm castings so that the roots benefit directly from the nutrients.

One 500 gram bag is sufficient for:

10 small plants, 3–5 medium-sized plants or shrubs, or 1 (fruit) tree.

Scientific benefits for the soil

  • Research (including from universities in Wageningen, California and India) shows that worm manure:
  • Soil microbial diversity increases — more life = healthier plants.
  • The soil's water management improves: it acts like a sponge, retaining moisture but preventing waterlogging.
  • Plant resistance increases — especially against fungi such as Pythium, Fusarium and Rhizoctonia.
  • Stimulates germination and growth, thanks to natural growth hormones such as auxins and cytokinins produced by the worms.

Sustainability & circular value

  • Worm poop is not only good for plants, but also for the planet:
  • It closes local cycles: kitchen waste and green waste are reused instead of being burned.
  • It prevents CO₂ emissions, because the composting process is aerobic (without methane formation).
  • It enriches depleted soil without chemical fertilizers.
  • And it makes urban farming possible, because worm compost can be produced even on a small scale in worm bins or worm hotels.

Extra tip: make Active Aerated Compost Tea (ABC Tea)

Worm castings are ideal for making Actively Aerated Compost Tea (ABC Tea): a liquid food full of micro-life that you can spread over a large area of garden.

In the attached PDF you can read exactly how to make and use ABC tea yourself.
