Natural rubber is made from a milky latex sap from the Hevea brasilensis, the rubber tree. The hevea tree has a valuable traditional life cycle. After planting, it takes seven years for the hevea tree to mature for rubber production. The tree can then provide sap for 30-40 years, simultaneously absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. When the trees are felled, they are used to make furniture under good working conditions. Natural rubber is biodegradable, which takes five years. A plastic bag, on the other hand, takes 500-1000 years!
